ENTERTAINMENT:
The highly popular Theme Night Buffets allow you to indulge in the exotic
and romantic pleasure of dining under the stars. Most often accompanied
by spectacular local entertainment, these occasions are not to be missed.
The buffets and shows take place Thursday and Saturday nights. Thursday
offers the Tahitian buffet and traditional dances. Saturday is the seafood
buffet and fire dance.
The Buffet and Show
Weather permitting, guests are seated outdoors on the terrace of the Otemanu
Restaurant. The terrace is semi-circular in shape, with several tiers
that descend to a fire ring on the sand where the show takes place. Each
show is an hour-long spectacle of exquisite singing and exotic, rhythmic
dances. Thursday nights performance includes the tamure, a very fast dance
accompanied by frenzied drum beats, and the aparima, where the women perform
soft, gentle hand-dances, each movement telling a story. On Saturday nights
the terrifying and magnificent fire-dance is fearlessly performed by a
male trio effortlessly wielding huge knives of fire. A full orchestra
playing traditional Tahitian musical instruments accompanies the dancers
and singers.
